Paton-Churdan voters will fill a seat on the board of education with a write-in candidate in the Sept. 12 school election.
Mitch Stream and Dennis Tilley, both of whom were previously appointed to the school board, are running for election to four year terms. Eric Happe was appointed to fill the vacancy created when Steve Burrell resigned. The appointment was only until the next school election. Happe is now on the ballot to continue in that seat, which expires in 2019.
Board member Deonne Robey is not running for re-election and there are no other candidates. That seat will be filled by a write-in candidate.
Also on the ballot will be a renewal of the current physical plant and equipment levy of 86 cents (per $1,000 of taxable valuation). The current PPEL expires June 30, 2018.
PPEL funds are used in Paton-Churdan to help provide up-to-date technology, facilities and transportation.
Absentee ballots will be available later this month in the county auditor’s office at the courthouse in Jefferson.
This will be the last regular September school election in Iowa. Beginning in 2019, school elections will be part of the November general election per action taken in the Iowa statehouse during the 2017 legislative session.
